On the 14th of September the first gravitational wave signal was detected by the aLIGO detectors. We can now no longer only see what happens in the universe but we can also feel what happens in the universe. In this talk I will touch on the first detection and the first operation run of aLIGO in general. I will focus on the significance of this detection and on the technology involved in making this detection possible.
