Three homologous C-class and one M-class flares were observed by SDO and Hinode in the AR
11429 on the 9 th March 2012. One interesting feature is that the recurrent flares are all confined,
until the last one when a large-scale eruption occurs. Spectroscopic observations with Hinode/EIS
are used to measure the velocities of the high temperature (~10 MK) upflowing plasma and the
electron density at the flare footpoints during the chromospheric evaporation phase. In order to
investigate the recurrent nature of the flares, we performed NLFF extrapolations based on
SDO/HMI data which provide information on the evolution of the magnetic field structure and the
reconnection process in the AR under study.
