Solar and Experimental Plasma Physics Synergy
Solar physicists aim to understand ground and space-based observations by modelling fundamental plasma properties. Likewise plasma experimentalists look into a laboratory chambers to investigate the very same basic properties to determine how they can be harnessed for new technology. So there is potentially a lot to learn about the nature of space plasma through new and innovative collaborations between both disciplines. This is particularly timely since laboratory plasma experiments can now create diverse magnetoplasma structures, e.g. in plasma jets and magnetic arches that, in-turn, provide us with precise in-situ measurements, probe fundamental plasma processes and potentially validate theoretical and numerical modelling in solar physics if e.g., the appropriate scalings and boundary conditions are applied.
