I will give an overview of the status of the Gaia Photometric Science Alerts as we approach the second year of the mission. I will describe detection, automated filtering, classification methods, and publication. I will summarise the properties of the alerts published to date, and show some science highlights from recent data. I will focus on recent progress with the photometric calibration, and the classification of the BP/RP spectroscopy. Finally I will discuss prospects for the remainder of the mission.
